SAP’s HANA platform has been given a facelift with the release of service pack 10, which adds IoT enhancements and Hadoop integration.
The service pack is designed to help customers connect with IoT at an enterprise scale, to manage Big Data and to extend the availability of data across enterprises, leading to the development of new applications.
One area that SAP is aiming for is predictive technology such as SAS, which Steve Lucas, president, Platform Solutions, SAP said: "Could be entirely replaced."
The company’s aim of connecting to the Internet of Things is supported by its remote data synchronisation feature, which will allow developers to build IoT and data-intensive apps. The apps will be able to remote data synchronise between the enterprise and remote locations via its SQL Anywhere suite.
As the company moves forward it is aiming to use HANA as the core for development but it is also integrating other Big Data solutions such as Cloudera and Hortonworks. Other improvements on this front include faster data transfer with Spark SQL and Hadoop cluster administration using Apache Ambari.
Further features to enhance its offering include high availability and disaster recovery capabilities, featuring 1-to-n asynchronous replication, auto-host failover for dynamic tiering and incremental backups.
The platform which currently has more than 6,400 customers is aiming for more with these enhancements, along with greater interoperability with other solutions. This is likely to increase its exposure to the market.
