Continuity appliance brings instant recovery

No need for daily or weekly backup

By Steve Evans

Disaster recovery start-up Asempra Technologies is promising instant recovery of Windows applications and data with a $30,000 rack-mounted business continuity appliance.

The appliance is designed for Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL and file server workloads where there is no tolerance for the downtime that is typically associated with data recovery from tape. The box will protect up to 1 TB of total production data.

Some smart inbuilt virtualised recovery and data protection technology means applications can be restarted from a storage failure in seconds, without having to wait for a full recovery.

The company said that because the system effectively produces recovery points every second, there is no need to perform daily or weekly backup jobs.
