In the quarter ended in September 2014, Microsoft has recorded revenue of $23bn which was mainly driven by its cloud-based offerings.

Wall Street analysts estimated the earnings of the software giant to reach $22bn with 49 cents a share, but the company managed to earn 54 cents a share, exceeding the expectations of analysts.

Revenue of the consumer division grew 47% to $10.96bn.

Office365 Home and Personal subscribers representing more than 25% sequential growth. The revenue of Surface Pro 3 was $908m, and Xbox console sales saw 102% growth.

When compared to the previous quarter, the company’s commercial revenue grew 10% to $12.28bn with 13% increase in Server products and services revenue.

It recorded 5% growth in Office Commercial products and services while 128% increase was recorded in Commercial cloud revenue.

Even though Microsoft faced tough competition from iOS and Android the company’s phone hardware revenue exceeded $2.6bn.
