BI and analytics software professionals prefer cloud-based business intelligence (BI) to conventional and on-premise software when it comes to accessing real-time business data, a new report reveals.

About 80% of those surveyed were ‘highly satisfied’ or ‘satisfied’ with the adoption of cloud BI, compared with 51% satisfaction rate among on-premise users.

The report also found that over half of BI users preferred choosing a cloud BI solution over on-premise, while only 14% preferring on-premise software.

Dimensional Research senior research analyst Diane Hagglund said: "These results confirm that cloud BI solutions are strongly preferred, offering faster, easier and more economical deployment and lower total cost of ownership, along with superior ease of use, which drives broader user adoption within the organisation."

About 83% of analytics software professionals believed cloud BI solutions offer faster implementation than on-premise, with 69% of cloud BI implementations finishing within three months rather than six months for on-premise users.

Another 60% of those surveyed said cloud BI solutions are user friendly and need much less training, while 44% stated that on-premise necessitated the most training for business users, than about 5% for cloud BI users.

About 80% of respondents revealed that on-premise solutions involve more administrators, while half of them said that the cloud BI solution is used by more employees.
