Cheaper email archiving in store with new Barracuda box

Message stubbing features saves on storage

By CBR Staff Writer

The burgeoning email archiving appliance market just got bigger with the arrival of the Barracuda Message Archiver 150 for small businesses.

Most all organisations now feel duty bound to capture all e-mail messages and retain them for a defined period of time, and archive appliances are seen as one of the best ways of coping with compliance and regulatory obligations.

Typically, appliances capture only e-mail, not contacts or calendar entries or other types of content and Gartner reckons most products on the market do not provide any mailbox management features, such as message stubbing.

Barracuda has addressed that particular issue saying the full Barracuda Message Archiver product line now features Exchange stubbing for optimisation of email server resources.

With Exchange stubbing, administrators save email server storage and bandwidth requirements by moving email attachments from Microsoft Exchange to the Barracuda Message Archiver.

The new box is said to be good for up to 75 users, and is pitched at $1,999. Exchange stubbing is available with firmware version 2.0 at no additional charge to current and future Barracuda Message Archiver customers, the company said.
