Buffalo Technology has launched a new storage appliance TeraStation III Rackmount, aimed at small and medium sized businesses.
Delivering hot swap capabilities and higher capacities in a new slim, space saving 1U chassis, the TeraStation III Rackmount offers a hardware platform in a cost-effective package, the company claims.
According to Buffalo, the TeraStation III Rackmount incorporates a new hardware platform shared by the previously announced TeraStation III and TeraStation Duo. It features dependable backup, eco-conscious power management, as well as enhanced business features. The new TeraStation device allows businesses to transfer digital assets at faster rates to quickly and securely backup large amounts of data on multiple servers.
Buffalo said that, both the TeraStation III family includes hot swappable drives for continued use even in the event of drive failure. The devices also include disk encryption for protection; controlled fans with a thermal sensor for cooling; NFS and Active Directory. Other features include cartridge-mounted HDD, print server functionality, RAID5 and LCD status display.
The TeraStation III Rackmount also includes new backup features such as replication, support for Mac’s Time Machine and hot spare/hot swap for uninterrupted operation. All TeraStation devices continue to offer Buffalo’s Web Access feature for remote access to all data stored on the devices via a web browser from anywhere. The new TeraStations include two Ethernet ports and an internal flash boot.
The company’s new NAS devices offer power management features, which the company claims will reduce power consumption by 66% while simultaneously reducing CO2 emissions. These power management features include a scheduled power management system with three timers for automatic shut down during non-business hours. The devices also include hard drive spin-down, which saves energy when drives are not in use.
The TeraStation III Rackmount devices are expected to be available in late August at estimated street prices of $1,299.99 for the 2TB model, $1,799.99 for the 4TB, $2,299.99 for the 6TB and $2,999.99 for the 8TB model.
