It was just last month that the new Bing was launched with a social sidebar which enabled users to ask friends for recommendations when searching.

Microsoft has continued its move towards social by allowing users to tag friends when sharing a Bing search.

According to Bing, the new feature "allows you to effortlessly tap into the collective wisdom of your social network and get input from your friends who are in the know."

The new search can be useful when searching for restaurants nearby or places to go on holiday as users can gain ideas from friends on their social network.

To use Bing’s new search feature, enter a question or comment in the sidebar and type a friend’s name on Facebook to tag him her. A user is able to tag up to five friends at one time.

The question or comment will then post to a user’s Facebook timeline and tagged friends will receive a notification so they can help their friends find what they are looking for using Bing search.

July 2012 Data from Experian Hitwise shows that Bing search has risen 5% in its share of searches compared to data released in May 2011.

Google still ranks as the top search engine accounting for 65% of the U.S. market but it’s share has dropped by 5% in the past year while Bing’s has risen 5% suggesting that the search engine is slowly converting Google search users.
