The CEO of data integration firm Informatica, Sohaib Abbasi, said in a CBR interview that Big Data analytics companies have been making "remarkable claims" about their technology.
"If you look at the world of analytics it is a very complicated world," he told me. "There are six ways to do analytics. You’ve got traditional data warehousing from vendors like Teradata. You’ve got built-for-purpose analytic databases from the likes of EMC Pivotal, Greenplum. You’ve got in-memory databases such as SAP HANA. There is agile BI from people like QlikTek. You’ve got Hadoop which is of course one of the most hyped technologies. And then you’ve got cloud web services like Amazon Redshift."
"Each one of those vendors is making some remarkable claims, that they can do it all," he said. "You can have all the analytics you want. I just do not think that in the world of analytics one size fits all."
He went on to say that, "There are at least six ways of doing analytics. I think all of them have a role to play but none of them can live up to the claims that people are making: that regardless of what questions you may have, they’ll be able to answer that. How could they possibly make such a claim?"
