Basho Technologies, a systems software provider, has added OpenStack storage support to the latest version of its Riak CS software.

The Massachusetts-based company said the software will provide simplified cloud storage for a broad range of cloud computing platforms.

The software is supposed to simplify the management of query requests and user data, while its use of concurrent channels is expected to improve the performance of multi-data centre replication.

Other features include secondary indexing pagination and improved user API and downloading performance.

Greg Collins, president and CEO of Basho Technologies, said: "This release continues our commitment of providing simple and accessible cloud storage for a broad range of cloud computing platforms and use cases. With the addition of OpenStack integration and significant performance improvements, Riak CS 1.4 also appeals strongly to enterprises building their own object storage or adopting a hybrid-cloud deployment methodology."

Simon Robinson, VP of storage research at 451 Research, said: "Riak CS’s tighter integration with OpenStack is certain to be another catalyst for Basho. OpenStack users gain a very capable storage alternative to Swift, OpenStack’s object storage platform."
