Bank of New Zealand selects Data Domain to optimise storage infrastructure

BNZ has reduced the number of physical tapes

By CBR Staff Writer

Data Domain, the provider of deduplication storage offerings, has announced that Bank of New Zealand (BNZ), a subsidiary of National Australia Bank Group, has implemented Data Domain’s deduplication and replication systems to support data protection operations for its two primary data centres.

The enterprise IT environment at BNZ comprises over 900 servers split between two data centres, and supports the business applications, including transactional databases, financial applications as well as file and email services.

BNZ has reduced the number of physical tapes in use and now only data requiring a retention period of seven years or more is transferred to tape and stored offsite. This has reportedly reduced backup and administration costs.

Rod Park, Manager of Infrastructure Design for BNZ, said: We wanted to avoid any major reconfiguration of our environment. Data Domain integrated with Symantec NetBackup using OpenStorage (OST), and has proved straightforward to create policies and manage backups.

Beth White, vice president of marketing for Data Domain, said: Data Domain is pleased to add BNZ to its global portfolio of financial services customers, offering an efficient deduplication storage solution that meets the organisation’s business and IT needs. Enterprises are recognizing the management and performance benefits that can be gained by implementing the Data Domain OST option within Symantec NetBackup environments.
