Acer reveals building block PC at IFA 2015

The €199 Acer Revo Build M1-601 will be available in EMEA in October.

By CBR Staff Writer

Acer has unveiled the Revo Build, a mini PC featuring modular components that will allow users to customise their computer without opening up the chassis.

The main component of the new age PC is the ‘blocks’ that can be connected through pogo pins with magnetic alignment, allowing users to swap out modules without needing to unscrew any parts.

The block is designed in a way that it can work independently or with other PCs, while also being able to play host to a 500GB/1TB hot-swappable portable hard drive, a wireless power bank for charging, and an audio Block with speakers and microphones.

The base unit will feature Intel Pentium or Intel Celeron processor with integrated Intel HD graphics.

Revo will have system memory of up to 8GB DDR4 RAM and by loosening one screw users will be able to update the RAM.

The feature of the new PC reflects the idea behind Google’s Project Ara smartphone that will also have replaceable and swappable components.

Over the coming months the company is planning to release Power Bank, to be used to run the PC when it is not plugged in to main power source, an Audio Block to bring audio element, and a Graphics Block to improve the quality of video games.
