About 30% of organisations have been experiencing 25% or more expansion per year, according to a new report from InformationWeek.
According to the 2013 State of Storage report, big data has been a big driver and 47% of organisations cited that enterprise database/data warehouse was pushing Tier 1 growth.
Additionally, the report revealed that the Ethernet is taking off, with a combined year-over-year boost of 20 points in iSCSI and FCoE, and security reported gains as well, while about 60% organisations are involved in encrypting some of the stored data.
The report revealed that 26% organisations cited deficient staffing as a top concern, reporting a 19% rise over 2012.
About 63% supported the use of solid-state drives to enhance performance, while there is scope to rise as about 28% of solid-state users deploy SSDs in 31% or more of their arrays.
42% of those surveyed have 100 terabytes or more under active management, while 11% have 1 petabyte or more, reporting a 9% rise over 2012.
Currently, 39% of decision-makers use some cloud-based storage, while 32% are planning to use it. About 27% organisations have consolidated storage on fewer, centrally managed systems, the report revealed.
About 25% of those surveyed keep Office and SharePoint documents indefinitely, while an additional 18% have no policy for disposal and 12% have no disposal policy for email.
