3PAR has launched new software capabilities for its InServ Storage Server, which it claims to give cloud and enterprise datacentres increased resilience and agility than traditional storage arrays.
The company said that the new software features Synchronous Long Distance Remote Copy, Persistent Cache, and RAID MP (Multi-Parity) helps protect customers against disasters, preserve service levels in the event of a component outage, and protect against double disk failures.
3PAR said that the new Remote Copy feature reduces the cost of remote data replication and disaster recovery by using thin copy technology, which eliminates the requirement of professional services. It also provides customers with multi-site alternative to achieve low recovery time objectives and zero-data-loss recovery point objectives.
According to 3PAR, the Persistent Cache is a resiliency feature that allows always-on environments to handle both planned and unplanned downtime. It eliminates the substantial performance penalties and maintain required service levels even in the event of a cache or controller node failure. The Mesh-Active design preserves write-caching in the event of a controller node failure by re-mirroring cache to the other nodes in the cluster, and is supported on all quad-node and larger 3PAR arrays, including the InServ F400.
The RAID MP (Multi-Parity) introduces Fast RAID 6 technology 3PAR ASIC. It is designed to deliver extra RAID protection and to work with large disk drive configurations. It supports double parity modes of 6+2 and ultra-efficient 14+2 and offers protection against data loss due to double disk failures, the company said.

Reportedly, Synchronous Long Distance replication is bundled in the new version of 3PAR Remote Copy while Persistent Cache and RAID MP are enhancements to the new version of the InForm Operating System.
