Five tech businesses have been selected as winners of the 6th Discovering Start-ups competition, 2015.
The competition which was organised by Cambridge Wireless and the SETsquared Partnership is supported by the likes of Tech City UK, techUK and The New Entrepreneurs Foundation.
Spanning seven countries including the UK, France and Italy, there were over 80 entries in the competition which is sponsored by Deloitte, Google, Qualcomm Ventures and others.
The winners each receive a prize fund that includes £500 cash, exposure to Business Investors and Angels, SETsquared Entrepreneur Training Programme and a place in the finals of the £50K Wayra Acceleration programme.
The five winners are:
1. Converge
Converge is low-power, wireless sensor networks for applications such as automating the monitoring process on construction sites. It can be used to detect anomalies on machinery so that preventative maintenance can be done.
It specialises in helping customers to use IT to more efficient and resilient.

2. Cyberlytic
The company provides security intelligence software that uses machine learning and adaptive rules. This is done with real-time risk assessment of cyber-attacks to triage alerts and enabling security teams to respond to the most dangerous attacks.
The company is a former member of the Amadeus Capital Partners acceleration program.
3. Gene Adviser
Gene Adviser provides an online marketplace for genetic testing which is designed to give doctors and patients access to genetic testing from labs across Europe and the world.
Based in Cambridge, the company aims to make genetic testing for rare diseases more accessible to clinicians.
Users’ can search and order online and offers quality metrics to help choose the most appropriate test.
4. GiveVision
The company develops software for wearable devices, such as smart glasses, that can be used as eyes for blind people.
It works by converting visual information into audio cues. This can assist the blind and visually impaired to read any printed text, travel more independently and to more easily identify products and prices when shopping.
5. Undo Software
Undo Software created a reversible debugger that can find the root cause of bugs. This allows developers to see everything that a program has done, including every memory access and every instruction executed.
It provides tools for Linux and Android that allows software developers to record, rewind and replay their C/C++code. The benefit of this is that they can more quickly and accurately respond to customer bugs.
The private company is headquartered in Cambridge.
