Data hungry customers drive EE’s 4G+ London rollout

EE’s 4G+ sites include Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Leeds, Leicester, Oxford, and Bristol.

EE is accelerating the rollout of high frequency spectrum for 4G+ in London to meet increasing demand for data use.

The initiative will provide users with higher speed internet at more locations across the capital city.

EE highlighted that video downloading and streaming on the go has accelerated after the introduction of the faster network, as nearly 60% of data spent on 4G+ smartphones is on video.

EE also said that customers with 4G+ devices on their network have downloaded more than double the amount of data this year than they did on an average in 2014.

Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge and HTC One M9 users on EE’s 4G+ network downloaded 4GB of data per month on an average. EE said that all 4GEE Extra plans will support 4G+ speeds up to 150Mbps at no extra cost and it will offer large data plans ranging between 500MB up to 20GB.

EE CTO Fotis Karonis said: "We’ve built our network with lots of capacity because we knew that video was growing at a phenomenal rate and customers need a fast connection when they’re downloading large video files to their phones.

"We already have 4G coverage for 93% of the population across the UK and that has made us number one for mobile data, complementing our industry leading reliability and voice performance."
