Zultys powers communication at National Eisteddfod of Wales

Zultys Technologies and its partners, Ethnet and SiraCom, will install communications infrastructure at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, being held in Cardiff from August 2 to 9, 2008. The event is expected to be attended by 160,000 people.

The National Eisteddfod festival can be traced back to the year 1176, under the auspices of Lord Rhys. In 1880, the National Eisteddfod association was formed to stage an annual festival to be held in Wales.

Ethnet, a broadband-via-satellite ISP, is providing internet access, communications and point-of-sale systems for the festival. Through Ethnet’s integration, event organisers, merchants and participating artists will be able to access a site-wide wireless network built on technology from Firetide, a provider of wireless mesh and access networks.

Ethnet and Siracom, Zultys’ distributor in the UK, selected Zultys’ flagship MX communications system to power the extensive wireless communications network.

Steve Rothenberg, CEO of Zultys, said: Zultys couldn’t be more pleased that our UK partners have chosen such a prestigious outdoor event to fully demonstrate the robust integration capabilities and flexibility of our MX communications system.

Zultys will provide its satellite broadband service to the festival to eliminate the need to lay cables throughout the venue. The service, when combined with the wireless mesh system, produces a platform that eradicates the need for multiple ground-based cables.

Barry Lieberman, managing director of Ethnet, said: The National Eisteddfod had a need to reduce cables and provide resilience in what can only be described as a large field before the build. Previously, they had the usual problems running cables across fields on a very busy site with exhibitors and traffic which can damage cables in the build.

The Zultys system is using ZIP 2×2 and Aastra phones with VoIP Unlimited acting as the internet telephony service provider.
