VMware releases vCloud Suite 5.1

The new integrated cloud infrastructure application delivers the software-defined datacentre

By CBR Staff Writer

Virtualisation and cloud infrastructure company VMware has released its vCloud Suite 5.1, a cloud infrastructure and management application that delivers the software-defined datacentre.

The new release simplifies the adoption of cloud era technologies by combining VMware’s virtualisation, cloud infrastructure and management portfolio into a single stock-keeping unit (SKU).

vCloud Suite 5.1 claimed to extend the virtualisation benefits to every domain in the datacentre. It also offers virtualisation, software-defined datacentre services, policy-based provisioning, disaster recovery, and application and operations management capabilities.

VMware’s vCloud Suite 5.1 is comprised of vSphere 5.1, vCloud Director 5.1, vCloud Networking and Security 5.1, and vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.1.

vSphere 5.1 is a virtualisation platform that comes with 100 new enhancements and delivers the enhanced service levels for all applications, including business-critical workloads and low-latency, I/O-sensitive applications.

vCloud Director 5.1claimed to allow customers to provide virtual datacentre services in minutes by offering scalability that support "elastic" virtual datacentres spanning multiple VMware vSphere clusters and up to 30,000 VMs.

The VMware vCloud Networking and Security 5.1 dynamically creates virtual networks and services that could be decoupled and made independent from the physical network hardware.

vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.1 simplifies and automates disaster recovery planning, testing and execution to enhance the availability and recovery of applications running in the software-defined datacentre.

The VMware vCloud Suite also includes vFabric Application Director, vCenter Operations Management Suite and vCloud Connector to help customers simplify and automate management and operations of their cloud environments.

It also speeds up application provisioning, moves workloads between clouds and enhances automation to capacity planning, performance and compliance management.

VMware Cloud Infrastructure Products, Product Marketing vice president Mike Clayville said: "By bringing together everything customers may need to build and manage agile, reliable cloud infrastructure, the VMware vCloud Suite simplifies and automates IT operations and delivers on the promise of cloud computing."
