Verizon Wireless to sell CDMA iPad soon

New version likely to have ‘personal hotspot’ feature like the CDMA iPhone

By CBR Staff Writer

US mobile telecom network Verizon Wireless will soon start selling an iPad with an embedded CDMA chip that can connect directly to its network.

Verizon Communications chief financial officer Francis Shammo has been quoted by Bloomberg as saying that the network provider will get the iPad with the embedded chip soon. However, he did not specify how soon it would happen.

The new version would run on Verizon the way the 3G iPad runs on AT&T, according to a report by MSNBC.

Currently, Verizon Wireless sells a Wi-Fi-only tablet bundled with a MiFi wireless modem. iPad users need an extra device to connect into Verizon’s network.

Meanwhile, Cult of Mac, a website that tracks Apple’s news, speculated that the CDMA iPhone’s new exclusive feature ‘Personal Hotspot’ in iOS 4.2.5 could also be introduced to the CDMA iPad.

The feature lets users share their data connection via WiFi with up to five other mobile and computing devices.
