Twitter to slash jobs in search for efficiency

News: The job cuts are likely to affect engineers more, who comprise around half of its 4,200 employees.

By CBR Staff Writer

Twitter is expected to reduce its staff count in order to drive company efficiency.

Job cuts by the social networking giant are likely to be announced this week, according to news website Re/code.

The restructuring initiative is a part of the new CEO Jack Dorsey’s ‘tough, necessary decisions’ for the San Francisco-based company, which has 4,100 employees at present.

Reorganisation of the company product and engineering departments has been underway over the past year, and is revealing some long-awaited features in due course.

Though exact number of the staffs to be laid-off is not known, the reductions are likely to affect all the departments.

Bloated staff counts and internal debates over tasks are blamed for slowing down the progress of the social network site, according to anonymous sources.

The downsizing is likely to affect engineers in the company, which account for nearly 50% of its staff count.

Dorsey had been giving out the message that "Twitter needs to be more focused" to increase its follower base.

The firm, however, will keep on recruiting new people.

Dorsey was quoted by Bloomberg as saying earlier: "There is a huge desire for more efficiency and there’s a huge opportunity to really raise the bar on our execution.

"We’re going to make sure that we put extra emphasis on continuing to recruit great people to this company."
