Twitter CEO Dorsey slashes 336 jobs in “restructuring”

News: Job losses will mainly fall on Product and Engineering departments.

By Alexander Sword

Twitter is shedding 336 employees in an attempt to "streamline" its operations.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchanges Commission, newly permanent CEO Jack Dorsey announced that the sacking of 8 percent of its workforce was intended to put Twitter on a "stronger path to grow."

Most of the job losses, the filing said, would fall on the Product and Engineering departments at the social media giant.

Engineering, in particular, which handles the running of the site, would proceed with a "smaller and nimbler team."

The departing employees would receive "generous exit packages and help finding a new job", Dorsey said, promising to "honor them" by improving the service.

"This isn’t easy. But it is right. The world needs a strong Twitter, and this is another step to get there," wrote Dorsey.
