Twitter brings Periscope live streams to your timeline

News: Users will have to go to the Periscope app to upload their videos.

By CBR Staff Writer

Twitter users will now be able to see live video on the platform through the live broadcast hosted on Periscope, an app that was bought by Twitter last year.

Previously, users had to leave the native app to watch any video on Periscope, but with the new feature they will get live videos on the native platform, eliminating the need to switch apps.

The feature is presently available to selected iOS app users and the videos will also appear in the feeds, profile pages and search results.

Twitter is reportedly planning to extend the feature to Twitter’s website and Android app soon.

The broadcasts on Twitter will show comments and floating hearts when users tap onto the screen, a feature similar to the one found on Instagram.

However, users will have to go to Periscope‘s app to submit comments, send hearts or stream their own videos.

Like all the other posts on Twitter, users will be able to use Twitter interactions like retweet, reply or like the tweet of the broadcast.

The move is expected to make Twitter one of the platforms that audiences would check for live content, and with Twitter’s approximately 320 million monthly active users, Periscope will gain a large viewership.
