tw telecom expands IP VPN service portfolio

Aims to extend its network reach internationally

By CBR Staff Writer

tw telecom, a provider of managed voice, internet and data networking products for businesses, has expanded its MPLS IP VPN service portfolio into 64 countries, on six continents, around the globe.

The company claimed that this added capability enables the company to connect a customer’s voice, internet and data traffic securely across town, across the country and now to international destinations.

The company’s MPLS IP VPN service suite can reportedly support a wide range of enterprise networking applications – from site-to-site network connectivity to telepresence video conferencing needs. MPLS network is said to provide a managed IP VPN service that is designed to simplify operations.

This service suite prioritises bandwidth across five service classes to navigate application traffic competing for the same network resources. The company will offer five classes of services (COS), so that customers are able to manage and prioritise their voice, video, enterprise applications, storage and internet access across its network to optimise the performance across the enterprise, the company said.

This CoS feature is expected to provide a mechanism for managing traffic in a network, by grouping similar traffic profiles, or applications.

John Blount, chief operating officer of tw telecom, said: The global expansion of our MPLS IP VPN service portfolio extends our network reach to serve the international needs of our customers.

These customers depend on the high-quality level of service we deliver over our robust metro fibre networks and national IP backbone to connect their buildings and data centres. Customers with sites outside the United States have told us that they’d also like us to deliver and manage their IP VPN networks end-to-end in those locations as well. Our extended reach internationally enables us to support their global networking demands.
