Ahead of being merged with colo Equinix in the biggest ever deal in the sector, data centre provider TelecityGroup has announced the opening of a sixth site in Amsterdam.

The AMS 6 hub boosts 9.6 MWs of power and 6,000 sq ft, with a PUE of 1.20.

The facility uses free cooling systems to cool down servers, and Telecity has also deployed Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) which utilises the stored groundwater from aquifers and will be used in the cooling systems to cool the data centre.

Telecity is due to merge with colo Equinix next year following a $3.7 billion M&A, with the European Commission due to make a decision on the deal by November 13.

The company said the data centre has been built to answer demand in the region.
