Sybase and Orange team up for mobile management

Duo offer security and cost benefits

By Steve Evans

Enterprise and mobility software firm Sybase has signed a deal with Orange Business Services to offer mobile device management as a managed service.

The firms say that the partnership is a result of the increasing number of mobile workers, devices and applications and the need for organisations to remain in control of their mobile assets.

Announced at the CeBIT conference in Germany, the deal will enable organisations to consolidate their mobile assets, such as devices and SIM cards, implement a mobile security policy and deploy mobile applications. The firms also say that it should help companies control mobile spending.

The device management will be hosted within the Orange network and will be available on any carrier and a wide variety of operating systems and devices.

Mobile Device Management will be used for device inventory, corporate settings, upgrades and distribution, application management, email control, cost management and monitoring the end-user experience. Mobile Security will ensure that companies can enforce access codes, establish “lock/wipe” policies, encrypt devices and data cards, deliver firewall and antivirus applications and control mobile access to corporate applications.

“Security compliance, centralised mobile device control, and application deployment are major challenges that global enterprises must overcome to benefit from the 21st century corporate mobility world,” said Caroline Comet-Fraigneau, head of mobility business unit, Orange Business Services.

“Our cloud-ready approach to mobile device management not only addresses these issues, but also ensures a positive return on investment by avoiding heavy CAPEX investment, ensuring a low unit cost per user by sharing our platform across multiple customers and helping reduce enterprise mobility costs,” Comet-Fraigneau said.
