US provider Switch claims to be building the world’s largest data centre in Reno, Nevada.
The complex is projected to be 6,487,241 sq ft large with up to 650 MVA of power.
The hub will be made out of seven buildings with Switch’s Tahoe Reno 1 data centre already under construction.
The data centre will connect to the company’s Las Vegas facility via a fiber loop under seven milliseconds, the company claims.
Switch has also revealed that Ebay will be Reno’s anchor tenant.
In the battle for the largest data centre in world, Switch is competing with the Range International Information Group (RIIG) which is building out a 6.3 million sq ft facility in Langfang, China, which is expected to be completed in 2016.
Switch, which provides security, power and cooling for thousands of server-stuffed racks, is also investing a further $2 billion to expand its Las Vegas data centre campus.
The Las Vegas Digital Exchange Campus is the world’s second largest data centre. Once the site’s construction is finished, the hub will be 2,365,838 sq ft with power reaching up to 325 MVA.
