Sprint to release Palm Pixi in mid-November

Second webOS smartphone to cost about $100 after rebates with two-year service agreement

By CBR Staff Writer

Sprint has announced that it would begin selling second Palm webOS device Pixi on November 15, 2009, priced at $99.99 with a two-year service agreement, after a $50 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate.

The Palm Pixi comes with 2.63-inch multi-touch screen with TFT display, full QWERTY keyboard, 2-megapixel fixed-focus camera with LED flash, Bluetooth 2.0, mobile e-mail and instant messaging support, integrated GPS, an accelerometer, 8GB of internal user storage, MicroUSB connector with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed and USB mass storage mode.

In addition to linking the information from Google, Facebook and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, and LinkedIn, the Palm Pixi adds Yahoo! integration to Palm Synergy 3 and assembles it all in a single view. The Palm Synergy allows users to see all the conversations with the same person in a chat-style view, including MMS, even if it started in IM and switched to reply with text messaging.

The Pixi also allows users to keep multiple activities open and move between messaging and email or searching the web while listening to music. It will use the Sprint’s EVDO Rev. A 3G network to access the internet.

Kevin Packingham, senior vice president of product development at Sprint, said: “We are excited to offer the new Palm Pixi to our customers in time for the holiday season, and it’s a great addition to Sprint’s industry-leading device portfolio.

“Simply put, this phone is fun and easy to use; with its multi-touch screen and full QWERTY keyboard, it’s a great device for messaging and social networking at a price everyone can enjoy, and delivers so many of the great features people love about Palm Pre in a fantastic new form factor, making it a huge hit for consumers.”

The Palm Pixi will be available on Sprint’s website and retail stores and also at Best Buy, RadioShack and select Wal-mart stores.
