Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications has reported net sales of €1.60bn for the third quarter of 2010, a decrease of 1.2% as compared to €1.62bn for the same quarter in 2009.

The company’s operating income for the third quarter was €63m as compared to loss of €193m for the same period last year.

Sony Ericsson has posted a gross profit of €473m for the quarter as compared to €252m for the same quarter prior year.

For the quarter ended 30 September 2010, the company has posted net income of €49m as compared to a net loss of €164m for the same period last year.

Sony Ericsson president and CEO Bert Nordberg said during the quarter, the company has launched its Android-based Xperia models in new markets, such as China and the US, and it expects to become the global number one handset provider on the Android platform.
