Skype launches video messaging service

The service allows users to send recorded video messages of about 3 minutes

By CBR Staff Writer

Skype has launched the full version of the video messaging service for Windows desktop, Windows 8, Mac, and its mobile clients for iPhone, iPad, Android and BlackBerry.

The service allows users to send recorded video messages of about 3 minutes to friends that can be played when they come online and it has been released following the trial version launched in February this year.

Microsoft, which owns Skype, has not updated the service for its Windows Phone and users with the device can receive and view Video Messages, but can not record and send Video Messages, while the send function is expected to be added in the future.

According to the company, the video messages can be viewed for six months and can also be stored for an unlimited period by subscribing to Skype Premium.

Available in the US and the UK, the service comes with an option to send about 20 free video messages, following their completion they will have to switch to the Skype Premium with a monthly subscription fee of $4.99.
