SanDisk, Supermicro to offer software defined flash storage for data centres

News: Claims 50 times performance with 80% less power.

By CBR Staff Writer

Flash memory storage device maker SanDisk teamed up with Supermicro to push software defined all-flash storage solutions for data centres.

SanDisk’s InfiniFlash System and Supermicro’s high-performance servers forms the base of the new storage solution.

Compared to traditional hard disk drive (HDD) arrays it claims offers five times more density, 50 times the performance and four times the reliability despite consuming 80% less power than traditional HDD according to the firms.

They will ship on Nexenta’s Open SDS unified file and block storage platform, and the NexentaStor platform.

The solution will scale up to four Petabyte (PB) configurations, and more than 8 Million flash IOPS in a rack.

SanDisk System and Software Solutions vice president Ravi Swaminathan said: "[This offers] breakthrough economics compared to traditional all-flash array deployments, and dramatically higher performance, improved reliability and lower power consumption compared to hard disk drive-based arrays.
