Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) has unveiled 3G Ubicell personal CDMA base station that works with users’ existing mobile phones to provide in-home cellular service over existing public broadband networks.
The company said that the UbiCell allows carriers to offer services typical to femtocells such as presence and home network and also offers services such as home phone and multi-number ringing. The base station adapts to its environment with automatic configuration, plug-and-play and remote operation and maintenance.
According to Samsung Mobile, UbiCell comes with built-in GPS sensitive indoor operation and offers location information for E911 calls and location based services. The base station moves power users off the macro network, which frees-up capacity of the macro network without the expense of additional BTS and backhaul.
In addition, the UbiCell automatically selects an available CDMA channel, eliminates frequency planning and allows for deployment to the mass market. It will adjust transmit power to eliminate interference to other users on the macro network and with neighboring UbiCells. It also includes built-in authentication, encryption inherent to CDMA and IPSec based VPN connectivity to the carriers network.
The 3G UbiCell features 3G-CDMA2000; 1xEV-DO Rev A & 1X, 800/1900 MHz dual-band, 110 VAC input voltage, 10/100 BaseT ethernet network interface, RF and GPS built-in antenna and multi-FA/Omni CDMA channels. It supports 8 simultaneous users and has dimensions of 5.8” x 7.8” x 1.5” (H x W x D) and weighs 1lb. It operates between 32°F to 113°F temperature and 20% to 90% humidity conditions.
Nivi Thadasina, director of product development at Samsung Mobile, said: “The 3G UbiCell enables our customers to quickly provide the complete home experience with guaranteed full wireless services plus the integrated home services to give a rich offering of converged services.”
