Rumour has it Adele’s giving Spotify the cold shoulder

News: New 25 album will not be available on any streaming services.

By Nitin Kumar

This year’s most anticipated album, ’25’ by Adele, will not be available for streaming on any digital music services.

The news comes on the day the album hits stores, which is expected to sell more than 1 million units in North America in its first week, according to Billboard magazine.

However, only her latest single ‘Hello’ was made available on most of the streaming services and fans will be able to continue to buy it.

Adele has a history of successful album releases, with her 2011 album ’21’ selling around 30 million copies worldwide – out of which 11 million sales were on CD, making the album most popular releases in decades.

The New York Times was the first one to report the move claiming that a music industry source said Adele’s XL Recording label had made the decision to withhold ’25’ from being streamed.

However, it is not known if the album will be released for streaming after it hits stores.

Streaming services have become huge in the music industry, with 32% of the annual revenue of record labels coming from the medium.

Artists like Taylor Swift, however, are turning away from streaming services, arguing that music should not be free.

However, Swift’s album was released on Apple Music in July after the company agreed to pay artists during a free trial.

"1989" sold more 8.5 million copies and went on to become the biggest-selling album in the world in 2014.
