Recommind takes email management mobile

Decisiv Email 3.6 introduces support for iPhone, Android, Blackberry

By Steve Evans

Recommind has unveiled the latest version of Decisiv Email, its email management platform. The latest version is said to enable users to file emails from any mobile device.

Derek Schueren, general manager of Information Access and Governance at Recommind, told CBR that Decisiv Email 3.6 is a, "new category of software that has redesigned email management from the ground up." The company has used Apple as its inspiration, with the way its iPad tablet redefined that market, Schueren said.

The new version of Decisiv Email uses the native email filing functions on any smartphone – such as Apple’s iPhone or Android devices – to enable mobile workers to manage their emails from their phone or tablet. It features a new mobile client interface which enables users to search, browse and retrieve Decisiv Email content.

It integrates with the latest versions of Microsoft Outlook and Exchange and appearance-wise it borrows a lot from Microsoft’s email platform, which Recommind says will help users feel familiar with the system.

The new platform also uses Recommind’s Predictiv Filing technology, which the company says can automatically file an email to the correct group based on the subject, contents, email trail and who it is being sent to. If one person files an email that is sent to a group of people the system will automatically file it for everyone else, Recommind said.

Schueren added that the product will not just be aimed at Recommind’s traditional stronghold of the legal sector, as email management is a problem that many organisations face. Decisiv Email 3.6 will cost $200 per seat for a perpetual licence. Schueren said he expects rollouts to range from 100 seats up to 10,000.

Eventually Recommind will add other collaboration platforms to the product, such as Microsoft Office documents and instant messenger conversations or, "anything that a company considers a record," Schueren told CBR. The company is also looking at a cloud-based option, so customers do not have to manage the servers on which the platform runs.
