France Telecom-Orange has acquired 100% stake in Elettra, a subsidiary of the Telecom Italia group specialised in laying and maintenance of submarine cables for the telecommunications industry.

Orange claims that the transaction, which involves the acquisition of two cable ships, reinforces its position as a major cable ship operator.

The Certamen, which is berthed in Mediterranean basin, and Teliri, which is specialised in laying new cables for telecommunications operators, are the two cable ships acquired by Orange.

In addition, the employees of Elettra and the crews of the two vessels will be unaffected by this transaction.

Together France Telecom Marine, a fully-owned subsidiary of France Telecom, and Elettra will strengthen the ability of the Orange to service telecommunications operators in Europe, in the Mediterranean basin and around Africa.
