Oracle announced enhancements to its cloud service on day three of Oracle Open World 2013, in the form of Database as a Service, Java as a Service and Infrastructure as a Service.
Oracle is said to power the top 10 SaaS providers, thousands of SaaS applications, and many of the world’s private clouds.
All of these rely on a robust cloud platform that provides applications with rich functionality with high performance, elasticity, availability and security. It is hoped that Oracl’es upgraded portfolio will support a wider variety of workloads,
Executive VP of product development, Thomas Kurian, Oracle, explained that the new services would give customers access to the world’s leading database and Java application server in the cloud, with managed service options and full administrative control.
They augment Oracle’s comprehensive portfolio of Application, Social, Platform and Infrastructure Services, all available on a subscription basis.
The new Oracle Database as a Service provides full control of a dedicated database instance, supports any Oracle Database application, and gives users greater flexibility and choice over their services.
Oracle Java as a Service provides full control of dedicated Oracle WebLogic Server clusters, supports any Java application, and gives users greater flexibility and choice over their services.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as a Service provides general purpose compute and storage services to support any application and gives users greater flexibility and administrative control.
Kurian said: "By building upon the world’s broadest selection of flexible, reliable and secure enterprise cloud services, Oracle is perfectly positioned to help organisations unlock all the benefits of cloud computing.
"With a comprehensive and growing set of functionally rich, integrated and secure cloud services, the Oracle Cloud provides customers with a variety of options through a full suite of Application, Social, Platform, and Infrastructure Services."
