Oracle has signed an agreement to acquire the US-based Corente which provides technology for software-defined networking (SDN)for wide area networks (WAN).
The transaction will add Corente’s software-defined WAN virtualisation platform to Oracle and support it in speeding up the deployment of cloud-based applications and services.
Oracle said the technology from Corente will also allow customers to manage global private networks and handle distributed applications over various networks with Corente’s Cloud Services Exchange.
Oracle chief corporate architect Edward Screven said the company’s customers need networking solutions that span their data centers and global networks.
"By combining Oracle’s technology portfolio with Corente’s industry leading platform extending software-defined networking to global networks, enterprises will be able to easily and securely deliver applications and cloud services to their globally distributed locations," Screven added.
Corente CEO Jim Zucco said, "Together with Oracle, we expect to deliver software-defined networking offerings that create cost-effective, secure networks, spanning global business ecosystems."
The integration of both the companies is expected to offer technology portfolio for cloud deployments featuring SDN that is able to virtualise both the enterprise data centre LAN and the WAN.
