Omnicity has chosen Cisco to deploy wireless broadband service throughout its network, in a move to increase mobile broadband coverage and bandwidth.

Omnicity said that it is migrating from the 802.11 wireless standard to the WiMAX 802.16e standard using Cisco’s Broadband Wireless Access (BWX) WiMAX antennas and base stations. It uses Cisco equipment at its core and has already deployed Cisco’s BWX platform in a portion of its network.
Omnicity plans to add services such as VOIP, IPTV and mobile communications using Cisco’s BWX platform to increase its number of customers and average revenue per customer. Omnicity has more than 200 tower locations and can choose appropriate location to deploy these new services.
Jarman added: “The agreement with Cisco will also give us access to Cisco’s vendor financing program, systems engineering, technical assistance and our planned stimulus grant writing. Having selected a vendor, we now turn our attention to spectrum holders around the country.
