Nutanix virtualises infrastructure Acropolis

Acropolis and Prism to deliver app mobility and native virtualisation.

By James Nunns

Nutanix has built an Acropolis and a Prism, at least those are the names of the product families for its next generation Xtreme Computing Platform.

These extend the hyperconverged solutions to enable application independence on its infrastructure, with app mobility and native virtualisation.

Acropolis incorporates an open platform for virtualisation and application mobility and is comprised of three foundational components.

Distributed Storage Fabric is designed to enable common web-scale services across multiple storage protocols and can mount volumes as in-guest iSCSI storage.

The company has also created a patent-pending algorithm, Nutanix EC-X, which is said to reduce the storage required for data replication by up to 75%.

App Mobility Fabric has been created as an environment for delivering virtual machine placement, VM migration and VM conversion. The final part, Acropolis Hypervisor includes a native hypervisor based on Linux KVM, which is designed to deliver enhanced security and self-healing capabilities based on SaltStack and VM management.

The company’s other offering, Prism, is designed to simplify infrastructure management, it features One-Click to streamline time consuming tasks.

It also offers a convergence of storage, compute and virtualisation into a unified system, advanced machine learning with built in heuristics to mine large volumes of system data and search technology.

Dheeraj Pandey, CEO and founder, Nutanix, said: "The most transformative technologies are the ones we don’t even think about. They work all the time, scale on demand and self-heal. In other words, they are invisible."

"Building on our foundations of web-scale engineering and consumer-grade design, we will make virtualization as invisible as we’ve made storage and elevate enterprise IT expectations yet again."
