Data centre service company IO has appointed Nigel Stevens as its UK managing director to spearhead the company’s European expansion.

Nigel Stevens has over 25 years of experience in senior management positions in the UK and US and before joining IO was the chief marketing officer of Infinity SDC. Prior to that, Stevens was in leadership positions at Global Crossing, Cable & Wireless Worldwide and THUS.

In his new role, Stevens will be responsible for the overall performance of IO’s business and operations in the country. He will be responsible for boosting the company’s regional market share, profitability and operational efficiency.

IO chief customer officer Bob Olson said, "Nigel is a highly driven and passionate business leader with extensive experience in the global telecommunications and data center industries.

"As IO continues to expand its global footprint, I have no doubt Nigel has what it takes to lead the overall business performance for the region."

IO is planning its European foray with a new data centre in Slough, just outside of London, this summer.

The facility will spread across 10,000 square metres with a dedicated substation to ensure reliable power to the data centre modules.
