Motorola unveils fifth generation of WiMAX software

Increase capacity of WiMAX network

The Motorola Solutions business of Motorola, has unveiled WMX 5.0, the fifth generation of WiMAX software, that allows operators to extend their existing WiMAX networks without the need to purchase new hardware.

Motorola said that through the deployment of new software-only upgrade, its WiMAX offering increases value of operators networks by providing capacity enhancements and supports industry standard features which improve operators return on investment.

The WMX 5.0 enables operators to increase the capacity of a WiMAX network and allows carriers to increase site capacity.

In addition, the new version supports Networking Working Group R6 that enables Motorola access points to interwork in existing or new networks where a third-party Access Service Network Gateway is deployed.

The WMX 5.0 will be available to operators in the first quarter of 2011.
