Microsoft, The Cloud collaborate to offer free WiFi at UK rail stations

The move forms part of promotion for Office 365 cloud-based productivity suite

By CBR Staff Writer

Microsoft and the UK public WiFi provider The Cloud have collaborated to offer unlimited free WiFi service across several UK railway stations until 24 April 2013.

As part of promotion for Office 365 cloud-based productivity suite, Microsoft is sponsoring free WiFi for the London Overground network of stations and UK rail stations operated by First Great Western and Greater Anglia.

Microsoft UK chief marketing officer Philippa Snare said the campaign is designed to help commuters tap into new ways of working.

"The mobile workforce is constantly growing and, as such, so is the need to access mobile internet," Snare said.

"Having free WiFi available is key to this because it enables people to get online quickly and easily as they travel.

"Simply put, our aim in sponsoring unlimited free WiFi is to ensure users are able to work from anywhere – in the office, at home and in between."

The service also allows users to access information regarding Microsoft Office 365 through a button in The Cloud’s Content Portal.

The Cloud managing director Vince Russell said more and more business people are accessing online services such as email from their smartphones and tablets.

"Microsoft 365 lets them take this to the next level," Russell said.

"In sponsoring free WiFi at these stations, Microsoft is supporting the modern, mobile worker and ultimately helping boost productivity in UK businesses."
