MetroPCS Q1 net income up

Records over 1.6 million net subscriber additions during the last 12 months

MetroPCS Communications, a provider of wireless communications services, has posted a net income of $44m, or $0.12 per diluted share, for the first quarter ended March 31, 2009, compared to $40m, or $0.11 per diluted share, for the same period in 2008.

Total revenues for the first quarter of 2009 increased to $795m from $662m in the first quarter of 2008. Consolidated adjusted EBITDA for the first quarter of 2009 increased to $199m from $178m in the comparable period of 2008.

Roger Linquist, chairman, president and CEO of MetroPCS, said: We are very pleased to announce record quarterly net subscriber additions of approximately 684,000 in the first quarter of 2009. During the first quarter we were excited to launch our unlimited service in the New York City and Boston metropolitan areas.

Our first quarter results in our Northeast Markets, including Philadelphia, were strong, with net subscriber additions of 249,000. Our rate of net subscriber additions has accelerated, and we have recorded over 1.6 million net subscriber additions during the last 12 months, representing total subscriber growth of approximately 37% in that period.
