Market’s first OpenSDS All Flash Array tackles Big Data data centre challenges

SanDisk & Nexenta offering the pre-validated all flash array solutions on Dell and Supermicro platforms.

By CBR Staff Writer

SanDisk and Nexenta are working together to release the industry’s first open software-defined storage (OpenSDS) All-Falsh Array (AFA).

Nexenta’s NexentaStor software-only platform has been integrated with SanDisk’s all-flash InfiniFlash IF100 system.

The companies said that joint solution will offer data centre customers a pre-tested, full-featured, high-performance system to address big data challenges.

The software and hardware package can scale from 64 Terabyte to two Petabyte configurations and support a range of deployment scenarios and workloads such as virtualisation, big data analytics, data warehousing, and dynamic modeling.

It is built on ZFS block and file giving customers a range of options in file support and performance, allowing them to address use cases like VMware vCloud Air, OpenStack and CloudStack backend storage, generic NAS file services and Home Directory storage.

The all-flash architecture has been tested with both Dell PowerEdge R730 and Supermicro SuperServer. It will be available via select channel partners with pricing as low as $1.5/Raw GB depending on configuration and capacity needs.

Nexenta CEO Tarkan Maner said: "The coupling of our NexentaStor software and SanDisk’s InfiniFlash systems delivers the industry lowest cost solutions for high performance (ultra-low, consistent, sub-millisecond response times and more than 8 Million flash IOPS in a rack) mature unified block and file services to cloud service providers and enterprise customers."
