Keep a watch on your child with Nu•M8

Lok8u uses GPS to track children

By CBR Staff Writer

Midlands-based location services company Lok8u will launch its new child-tracking device Nu•M8 at the International CES.

Lok8u says that parents can now rest assured about the security of their kids aged between three and 12, as its new GPS-based device locates the child with accuracy of three metres.

Parents need not worry about the child losing or removing the device, as it is concealed in a digital watch. Parents have the choice to deactivate the device.

Nu•M8 has been developed on the Pinpoint precise GPS technology used in SatNav systems. In addition, the company has used its own Cell ID technology which provides approximate location of the child. The information is then refined using GPS for gaining further accuracy. Dual locating technology ensures that the child can be tracked even at locations where normal GPS technology is not sufficient.

Nu•M8 can be accessed from mobile phone or PC and can be used at home, abroad or on holiday. Parents have the choice to set the boundaries using the Safe Zone feature. They get alerts when the child crosses the set boundaries. Even when the device is forcibly removed from the child’s wrist, Nu•M8 alerts parents about the current location on their mobile phone or the PC.

Using the “where are you” function parents can track the child’s location on Google maps. By texting “wru” from the mobile phone to Nu•M8 or clicking “where r you” on the Lok8u secure portal, parents can access the street address and postcode of their kid’s location.

Nu•M8 is expected to be available in the UK in the spring at a price of £149.99 and monthly subscription charges.
