Kaspersky targets VMware NSX security for software defined data centres

Kaspersky Labs goes for VMware security with new virtualisation solution for data centres.

By Hannah Williams

Kaspersky Lab has developed a new version of its virtualisation security solution, named Kaspersky Security for Virtualisation Agentless.

The solution is designed to provide protection within software-defined data centres which are built on VMware vSphere and VMware NSX.

With the enhancements made, the solution is able to deliver advanced security capabilities for each virtual machine and virtual network with minimal impact on the virtualised platform’s resources.

According to the company, its security for Virtualisation Agentless comes with a full infrastructure scan capability that enables scanning of both on and offline virtual machines.

This is said to be a unique feature, compared to traditional agent-based security solutions that are only able to scan operating VMs, as this solution is specifically designed for virtualisation to detect malware across the entire infrastructure.

Vitaly Mzokov, Solution business lead, Kaspersky Lab said: “The performance vs security dilemma has been at the core of relationships between IT and security professionals for as long as virtualisation has been popular in the enterprise sector.

“VMware and Kaspersky Lab address this dilemma by offering the use of Kaspersky Security for Virtualisation Agentless with VMware NSX. This provides customers with advanced security capabilities and almost zero impact on the platform performance and efficiency.”

The built-in VMware NSX features are now designed to offer capabilities such as anti-malware protection, virtual network IDS/IPS and enhanced SNMP-monitoring.

According to Kaspersky Lab, using NSX Security Tags enables real-time reaction to security incidents and also allows the automatic reconfiguration of the virtual infrastructure if the Agentless detects malware or other malicious activity.

Mzokov said: “The security features we now offer for both VMware NSX and VMware vShield Endpoint means that any IT and security strategies one has can be fully aligned to particular business needs.”

Both VMware’s NSX and the Kaspersky Security for Virtualisation Agentless solution will allow customers to find the right balance of performance and protection in a software-defined data centre.
