Juniper ups the ante in high performance networking

Juniper Networks has launched a new family of dynamic services gateways designed to provide large customers and telcos with secure networks that don’t compromise on performance.

By Janine Milne

The SRX 5600 and 5800 gateways run on Juniper’s Junos network operating system and make network management in the data centre far easier, as they pull together many separate security elements such as intrusion prevention and access control into one framework that can be managed centrally.

“Companies require networks that are fast, reliable, secure – they need high performance networks. The reason not everyone is offering high performance networks is because bits of the networks are like arteriosclerosis. They are hardened, but not in a good way. They are very complicated and that inhibits companies’ ability to change,” said Dr Anton Grashion, EMEA security strategist at Juniper.

Throughput is far higher than anything else Juniper or its competitors have produced, claims the company, delivering firewall throughput and intrusion detection six times faster than other offerings. The gateways are aimed at large blue chips and service providers and prices start $268,000 for the SRX 5800 and $265,000 for the 5600.
