Interxion expands European colo market with new London data centre

Its new data centre will be the third addition to Interxion London campus.

By Hannah Williams

European carrier and cloud-neutral colocation provider, Interxion has revealed that it is to expand its London data centre campus with a third data centre.

The new London site, known as ‘LON3’, is backed by £30 million worth of investment and will see 1,800 sqm added to the company’s London campus.

LON3, which is scheduled to open in 2018, is pitched as being able to deliver 24×7 operational excellence with nearly 100 percent availability. As with all data centres located on Interxion’s campus, it is to include redundant configurations for all critical systems, monitoring and support as well as CCTV surveillance with advanced security systems.

According to Interxion, its London campus has become a key location over the years for businesses which look to interconnect mission critical services in central London.

The London campus’ financial services hub has a total of over 200 market participants, making it a critical part of the trading landscape enabling firms to execute their trading strategies, according to the company.

According to Interxion, London is also noted as the most important colocation data centre market in Europe, as organisations based in London are paving the way for other European markets with its adoption in hybrid cloud.

Interxion says that its Cloud Connect service is an example of one tool which offers efficient network performance, availability and privacy gains for users in the area adopting cloud.

InterxionThe LON3 site has also been designed to enable customers to interconnect easily with the customer portal to over 90 connectivity providers, including cloud service providers and other services located across its London campus.

Andrew Fray, UK Managing director, Interxion said: “We are seeing a rapid evolution in organisations’ digital IT infrastructure requirements, with a mover to hybrid cloud and hyperscale computing. We’ve seen a surge in activity in London, as businesses from all industries take the cloud increasingly seriously.

“Our customers need to be close to their end users and connect to multiple networks, cloud platforms and strategic partners, to ensure the best possible performance from their infrastructure. Our new data centre will enable more businesses to join this valuable community.”

The expansion of its London campus follows after the company’s previous announcement regarding expanding sites in Frankfurt, Paris & Marseille.
