Hutchinson Whampoa helps MVNOs go global with Hue

Customers can access multiple markets via a single enabler.

Hue, backed by Hutchinson Whampoa, has launched its global end-to-end mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE).

The end-to-end mobile wholesale enabling business acts as a single point of entry for mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) wanting to create global coverage. Customers can access multiple markets via a single enabler, supporting the rapid expansion of international MVNO offerings.

The MVNE platform offers a range of services, including mobile network access, CRM, billing and provisioning. Users can also interface with third-party providers such as credit management agencies and logistics partners.

The services will use Hutchinson Whampoa’s global availability, which spans Austria, Australia, Denmark, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Ireland, Macau, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Vietnam and the UK. Hutchinson Whampoa’s presence in the UK is set to expand with its acquisition of O2, presuming that regulators do not block it.

If Hutchinson Whampoa cannot provide service in a country, Hue will negotiate with local operators there.

Among consequences for consumers, the growth of the international MVNO model may hasten the decline of roaming prices, predicted to fall in coming years.

"Today’s mobile wholesale market is fragmented and new entrants to mobile are often challenged with needing to understand market nuances and regulations in different countries," said Jarrod Nink, CEO of Hue.
