Huawei meets real-time data needs with Data Centre 3.0

Key innovations are pooling computing and storage resource via disaggregation.

By Joao Lima

Huawei has today claimed that its Data Centre 3.0 (DC 3.0) architecture holds the key for the data centre of the future.

The facility will function on resource pooling, software-defined and all-optical interconnecting technologies, paving the way for improved real-time data processing ability.

The DC 3.0 will boast a flat configuration and the ability to be expanded with ease, offering a cost effective solution to consumers.

Personal data consumption will reach PetaByte levels over the next ten years, 1,000 times larger than the current data consumption level of Terabytes, Huawei has predicted.

With an ever-increasing connected world, more data and the ability to process it are the big challenges for data centres and associated services.

Conventional solutions for real-time data processing, on demand resource allocation and systems energy efficiency, will have to be addressed.

To address this demand, Huawei has introduced the DC 3.0 for future data centres. The key innovations are pooling computing and storage resource via disaggregation. The processing ability of large-scale data centres could be improved by parallel computing.

Architecture will be able to meet the high bandwidth and low latency requirements of data transmission, made possible with the silicon photonic interconnections with fine granularity resource management.

Furthermore, processors will be able to achieve the tasks assigned by the heterogeneous processor architecture.

DC 3.0 turns to data-centric architecture from a conventional computing-centric mode, in which data could be allocated to specific processing units, making it flexible to manage.

DC 3.0 project leader said: "Huawei is dedicated to researching and developing innovative technologies for the next generation of data centres. Our aim is to help our customers realise the value in cloud computing and big data processing, contributing to a better connected world."
