Home Office seeks suppliers for ESN

Contracts will be awarded next year.

By CBR Staff Writer

The UK Home Office is still deciding on suppliers for the new Emergency Services Network (ESN). The Home Office is still seeking suppliers for user devices, air-to-ground service and devices, vehicle installation and control room upgrades.

Prior to submitting tenders later in the year, suppliers attended an event held by the Home Office to talk about details of the new ESN.

UK Minister of State for Policing, Criminal Justice and Victims Mike Penning said: "A modernised communications network is vital to help the emergency services protect the public and save lives."

"We are on track to deliver this critical part of our national infrastructure by 2017.

"We have seen strong interest in providing the new emergency services network and its supporting elements. I am confident that the organisations we select will create a communications network that is the best in the world."

With the tenders for the contracts set to be submitted in the near future, the contracts will be awarded next year.

Set to go live from 2017, the new network will be a collaboration with the emergency services and will add broadband data potential.
