Globe Telecommunication will launch the new long term evolution (LTE) roaming service abroad in collaboration with China Mobile Hong Kong and in Korea through its tie up with South Korea based SK Telecom.
Claimed to be the first telecommunications firm to offer LTE data roaming, the firm will enable its postpaid subscribers abroad to avail high-speed connection which they currently obtain in the Philippines.
Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said that the firm leverages on its partnership with the two carriers to make the LTE data roaming experience smooth for its postpaid subscribers who will be the first to access the superior browsing experience from this service.
"We are also working with IPX providers Sybase, Aicent, Syniverse, Citic, Tata, and BICs to allow us to scale up our LTE roaming partnerships with operators from Australia, Singapore, US, Japan, Canada, and the Middle East. We look forward to reaching these countries in the coming months," Cu said.
By deploying its global Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax) network, Globe became the first firm in the world to introduce 4G technology in the Philippines in 2009.
In 2011, the firm has also debuted 4G evolved high-speed packet access (HSPA+) network.
The firm is also planning to launch its 4G LTE network across Manila, Cebu, Davao and select region, in addition to the existing sites in Makati City.

Currently operating about 2,700 4G sites, Globe is expecting to increase its sites to 4,000 by end of 2012.
